Kazane is capped by a unique crescent roofline, which arcs elegantly in two directions and defines the building. Spread over 3 floors, there are 5 western bedrooms and 1 traditional Japanese tatami room, all with ensuited bathrooms. A large cedar spa looks into a mature stand of silver birch trees fronting a mountain stream.
Designed for a family, each of the children’s bedrooms features a splash of colour on the custom wardrobes – bright red, yellow, and blue. Special attention was given to the selection of fixtures, including pieces by Agape and a custom kitchen by Leicht of Germany.
To take advantage of the views towards Mt. Yotei, the living area is on the top floor. And of course, this also gives the added perspective of dining under the curved roofline. Located in Hirafu Lower Village, the site was selected for its proximity to a nearby creek, which carries a gentle breeze. This inspired the name Kazane, meaning “Sound of the Wind”.
