The Higashiyama Log House

The Higashiyama log house is positioned (320m Alt) at the highest boundary line butting up to the YTL owned Niseko Village resort, a short walk from the “Banzai Chair”. The Higashiyama area is developing as Niseko’s last available pocket of resort side residences and there are only a handful of stand alone residential opportunities this close to a ski run in all of Niseko. In addition to the ski in potential there is also a small expanding collection of restaurants and bars within walking distance.

With a leather lounge along two sides, wood burning fireplace, giant traditional double-pane removable Finnish window system and fully varnished pine floorboards, the lounge during a snow storm with the external lights on is an incredible room. Without any dividing posts the lounge and kitchen are an impressive warm space. The thermal retention properties of the Log House are phenomenal in all rooms, but never more aparrent than here. With the wood heater averaging a miserly burn of 1.85 kilograms of fuel per hour, the house’s interior temperature maintains a toasty 23 degrees.

Running the full length of the house the loft is the largest single space, and as such is an amazing space to adapt and configure to your needs. This area can comfortably sleep four people on futons and also includes an office desk set-up and large window at the northern end with views directly to the Namara run at Niseko Village, and a fully screened door that leads to a full width balcony on the southern end, with full views of Mt Yotei. Depending on your needs throughout the year, this loft can function alternately as a yoga / art studio, games room or overflow guest dormitory.

The upper level has two closed door bedrooms, one is the master and it features a large double pane removable Finnish window system, overhead storage space and room for a King or two single beds. The second bedroom at the northern end of the house features double pane removable Finnish window system with direct views to the ski slopes of Niseko Village. This room can fit two single beds or a queen sized double. As with the rest of the house the floors on this level feature fully varnished pine.

The bathroom is a large, warm and functional space that incorporates a laundry, vanity unit, toilet and a fully enclosed Japanese unit bathroom with shower and bathtub. Directly adjacent to the bathroom is a study nook (this page) and wall- length storage cupboard with shoji doors. This space features a large double pane removable Finnish window system.

Backing directly onto a silver birch forest on two sides, the back yard features a large fully developed garden with raised garden beds, lush manicured lawn, treated wood deck that can be raised in winter and a large rockwall on the boundary. The back yard can be accessed on both sides via a gravel car parking area on one and the side lawn on the other. The side lawn also features a screen of pine trees slightly inset from the boundary. The back door also leads directly to the decked area.
