Take a house, and turn it on its head. The floor plan was shifted dramatically by moving the living, dining and kitchen all upstairs to take advantage of the unique rafters, vaulted ceilings, and views. Starting with a very nondescript 2 room cottage with one bath, the result is 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a huge open concept living featuring a Japanese dining area.
Local Niseko area timbers were sourced for the table and counter tops – the beautiful elm, birch, and ash grains all adding their unique personality to the project. From the doors and shoji screens crafted by a local master to the dining table constructed on site, the extra touches on each timber add depth to the project. Traditional wall texturing, featuring several different patterns, are offset by simple white paint and traditional dark brown timbers.
