Hakuchōzan Niseko rises high, the four floors capped by massive extended eaves. Built for a large extended family who love to host people, the chalet needed to accommodate a lot of people, allow multiple areas to congregate, and also retain privacy. With 7 fully ensuited bedrooms, nanny room, two powder rooms, and multiple social areas both inside and out, Hakuchōzan covers an impressive 545 square meters of floor area. The living and dining areas spill out onto a large deck with gas BBQ, firepit, and jacuzzi, making it a free-flowing space for year round entertaining. The games room features the best electronics, boardgames, foosball and access to a rooftop terrace with wood firepit. A natural collecting place at the end of the evening, the man-cave has its own bar, shuffleboard, and plush leather seats for relaxing with whiskey in hand.
Throughout the design process, we focussed on hearty natural materials, to give the chalet context within the Niseko mountain milieu. Stone and exposed concrete, thick timber door handles and handrails, stressed timber flooring, wall plaster, and fine steel detailing. The counter tops and dining table are solid African hardwood, up to 7cm thick, and really add to the tactile experience. Hakuchōzan is designed to give occupants the ultimate alpine retreat.
Taiga is proud to announce that Hakuchōzan was the winner of "Japan's Best Ski Chalet" at the World Ski Awards in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
